The environment - Reducing carbon emissions from all our new stores by at least 50%
New technology to tackle climate change - we will spend £500 million in the next five years on green technology and renewable energy
Encouraging customers to make green choices - we have halved the price of energy saving lightbulbs
Reducing packaging - we’re cutting back by 25% by 2010
Helping you recycle more - last year we installed 14 fully automated recycling units and we are rolling out another 92 this year
Reducing carrier bags - Since August 2006 our customers in the South West have saved an estimated 70 million carrier bags
Getting you active - The Tesco Great School Run broke the Guiness Book of Records for the largest simultaneous walk or run. 242,000 children aged 7 to 11 joined in
Providing more local products - we’ve launched new “local choice” milk giving customers the choice to buy milk from small, local producers in their area
Engaging with the community - stores in Devon have so far raised £10,008 for the Charity of the Year, the British Red Cross. The charity and volunteering initiatives that we’ll run will ensure a practical investment in local communities. “Tesco Young Volunteers” empowers people aged 16 to 25 to get involved in community projects. The Tesco Charity Trust recently made a donation of £2000 to the “Teenbridge Project “(Kingsteignton/Newton Abbot) and £2,500 to 55+ Positive Lifestyle (Newton Abbot). Earlier this year we held an event in Kingsteignton with the Pre-School Learning Alliance to help parents and child carers learn about healthy eating
Being a good neighbour - our stores are being designed to blend in better with the local setting, and we are making our deliveries quieter by using different types of wheels on cages and noise dampening measures on the backs of new lorries.
