Tesco’s contribution to the south west economy is real and significant even if you do not include the jobs we create. Our customers and staff love the increase in locally-sourced produce. People who do not shop at Tesco are surprised to learn how much food and drink comes from the region. We launched the Local Sourcing Initiative at a roadshow in Padstow a year ago. We opened a new local sourcing office in Plymouth and pledged to find the best food and drink the region has to offer. This is not just altruism: our customers told us they care about where their food comes from and they want to support their local businesses. The point is, we have responded.
